Thomas And Hannah Earn Only Alabama Spots On All Time Team

Where do you even begin with something like an "all-time team" in college football?

Come on, the Crimson Tide has arguably the greatest heritage in college football history.

18 national championships.

34 SEC TITLES.

Heisman winners Mark Ingram, Derrick Henry, Devonta Smith, and Bryce Young.

So many incredible generational talents have come through Tuscaloosa, Alabama, since 1892.

Why do this all-time team? Well, it has to do with the 100-year anniversary of the Associated Press, and to look back at their history, they've put a historic team together.

I have a number for you.

That is how many players from Alabama have earned first-team all-America honors from the AP.

That is quite a few great players to sort through for any historic team.

How many Alabama players made the team?

Yep, two players out of those 83 ended up on the AP All-Time College Football Team.

I can not argue with the two they chose, and I believe they absolutely belong on the greatest team.

Joe Namath isn't worthy? I shouldn't start that, or we will do this for the rest of the decade.

Derrick Thomas and John Hannah are representing the Crimson Tide on the first team.

Hannah was at Alabama from 1970 to 1972 as an incredible Guard on the offensive line, and the other player was perhaps the greatest linebacker ever to wear a Tide uniform.

And, I say that as a huge Cowboys and Lee Roy Jordan fan.

Only one other Alabama player made the cut at all.

Heisman wideout Devonta Smith made the second team on this "greatest of all-time" team.

Thomas played from 1985 to 1989 and went on to dominate the NFL as well for the Kansas City Chiefs after being chosen in the 1989 draft.

Thomas would sometimes just show up at the radio station I worked at in those days, just because he wanted to hang out and get on the radio.

I truly love that guy in every way. One of the sweetest souls on earth in the history of the planet.

I still miss him.
