Alabama Defensive Coordinator Addresses Offseason Arrest
Alabama defensive coordinator Pete Golding enters his fifth year calling the defensive plays for the Crimson Tide in 2022. Golding faces immense expectations this fall as his defense returns a number of key contributors from the 2021 season, including star outside linebacker Will Anderson.
Golding has also become one of Nick Saban's top recruiters and had a successful campaign in the 2022 cycle, playing a significant role in securing seven prospects in the Crimson Tide's No. 2 overall recruiting class.
Unfortunately for the Louisiana-native, Golding was arrested for D.U.I. in the early morning hours after the February signing day. The defensive coordinator addressed his run-in with the law in Sunday's media availability.
"Anytime you're in a leadership role in anything you do, you've got a responsibility. Every day we talk to our kids about making good decisions, that there are consequences for making bad decisions. And I made a very poor decision that affected a lot of other people than just myself. And it was selfish. And it opened up a lot of emotions for a lot of people, because people can be affected by making that decision. And I was wrong, and I've got to suffer the consequences for it.," said Golding on Sunday morning.
And I've done a lot of things in my life, obviously, to adjust what I do to become a better person for it, as a father, a husband and a coach. When I told the team, I met with them that next day. I said 'Look, man, I can tell you anything I want, but I've got to show you.' To provide that leadership and get the trust back from the team, that I've made a mistake, I've learned from it, and move on."
