Topping the News:

The tasing of handcuffed Micah Washington in the Pickens County town of Reform by a female officer earlier this month has not only sparked protests but also legislation. State Senator Merika Coleman is proposing two versions of a bill, a civil version and a criminal version, that would prohibit officers from tasing someone who is restrained. The civil version would allow a judge to award restitution while the criminal version of the bill would allow prosecution of an officer.

Coleman points out that her legislation is not an attack on law enforcement but an effort to keep citizens who are already in custody safe.

The legislation has been prefiled for the legislature's regular session that begins in February.

Police in the Greene County City of Eutaw will hold a press briefing at 10:00 this morning to discuss a fatal shooting that occurred there on Christmas Day.
