Have you ever looked at a fast-food menu and thought, “Is that all they have?”

Well, maybe not.

There is a whole other world hiding behind those familiar menus, and a website called HackTheMenu has made it easier to find. It is packed with unofficial menu hacks, unusual combinations, and items that you may not see listed on the restaurant’s regular menu. And some of them are pretty wild.

I just discovered HackTheMenu and love it. Fun to try with your kids too.

So what exactly is Hack The Menu? HackTheMenu is basically a guide to the secret side of fast food.

The website collects menu hacks from popular restaurants and explains how customers can order them. Some combinations have been around for years, while others are from customers or employees who decided to get a little creative.

The important thing to remember is that a “secret menu” item isn’t necessarily an official menu item. A particular restaurant may or may not be familiar with the name of a hack, and availability can vary from one location to another. It’s fun to try.

Okay, here are some of my favorites:

There’s Chipotle, where customers have come up with combinations such as the Burritodilla..

Wendy’s has some unusual creations listed as well, including the Barnyard Burger and Meat Cube.

At Whataburger, you can find unusual combinations like Chicken & Pancakes.

And then there’s KFC, where some of the menu hacks get pretty creative.

Even Burger King gets in on the act with combinations such as Frings—fries and onion rings together.

Some of these items aren’t really secrets anymore. Once enough people know about a particular combination, it can become almost legendary.

Now this doesn’t necessarily mean the person behind the counter will know exactly what you mean when you say the secret name, or roll the dice.

I pulled up and said I’d like the Mest Cube. Boy, did they look at me funny. Maybe it hasn’t arrived in Alabama yet.

If a restaurant employee doesn’t recognize the name of a particular hack, explain the best you can. Details at www.hackthemenu.com.

Most menu hacks are at the franchise fast food places. But try this in Tuscaloosa. Go to Taco Casa and ask if there are secret menu items.

Do you have any secret menu hacks? Please share in the comments.
