Showers and thunderstorms will push into Central Alabama in advance of a cold front late Saturday night through Sunday morning. While confidence is low that conditions will support widespread severe storms, a few strong to potentially severe storms are possible.

While the incoming showers and thunderstorms carry some risk for our area, this round of wet weather can help provide some much-needed relief to the ongoing drought conditions across the state. It won’t completely solve the problem, but it does help.

Risk Area and Level

The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of the Townsquare Media coverage area under a marginal risk for active weather, indicating a level 1 out of 5 scale.

Timeline

James Spann, Alabama Weather Network and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist, said, “Rain should begin across the northwest corner of the state around 11:00 p.m., and it should exit the eastern counties early Sunday afternoon.”

Threats

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said the main threats are “damaging winds up to 60 mph.” Spann adds that “a few of the heavier storms could produce small hail.”

Will This Impact the Alabama Game?

At this point, the expected rain to impact the Tuscaloosa area is after 11 p.m. with “a small risk of a shower during the game,” said Spann.

As always, I stress the importance of checking for any updates, as weather conditions change, this could impact the hourly gameday forecast, which we will closely monitor.
