Central High Opens Football Season With Huge Pep Rally
High school football has officially kicked off in West Alabama, and the competition is already fierce. Week 0 for Central High School featured a much-anticipated game against Tuscaloosa County High.

The Falcons ended up walking away with a 32-point victory in this year's game against County High. Before the game, the Falcons held a huge school-wide pep rally to get students and the team pumped about the season opener.
The pep rally featured games, dancing, a live DJ, prizes, information on jobs and career placement from the Tuscaloosa Area Career Center, and of course, the Central High School Marching band. Townsquare Media's 105.1 The Block hosted the pep rally on Friday, August 22nd.

With any school, the first game of the season sets the tone. Central High School Cheer coach Rachel James was sure to add every needed element of excitement to the pep rally for the students.
"High school is one of those memories that you want to look back on and think of these types of high-energy moments, in addition to classroom work. Exciting pep rallies help set the tone for the expectation of crowd participation at the actual games as we cheer on all of our athletic teams to victories," James said.

"It means to be able to continue cultivating a culture of school spirit and self-pride."

In a new school year and several changes across the school system, James wanted to make sure students, especially the seniors, had great experiences this school year. The students wanted the same, so much so that they took the lead in planning out the event.
"I was so excited to see the seniors and the cheerleaders take a very active approach not only in planning out this pep rally, but also in taking the lead by demonstrating school spirit and motivating the underclassmen to join the movement," said James.
"At Central, we always encourage our students to be creative, vocal, and innovative leaders."
