John Prine recently made his first appearance on Austin City Limits since 2005, and The Boot has an exclusive first look at his performance. Readers can press play above to watch Prine's ACL performance of "Angel From Montgomery."

Prine dedicated this performance of "Angel From Montgomery" to Bonnie Raitt. Prine wrote the song and included it on his 1971 album, and numerous other artists have covered the tune, but it was Raitt's 1974 version that earned the song a wider audience. Prine and Raitt performed "Angel From Montgomery" together for a 2002 episode of Austin City Limits.

Fans who tune into Prine's upcoming Austin City Limits episode will catch an hour-long set from the lauded singer-songwriter (and 2019 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame hopeful!), featuring songs from his newest album, The Tree of Forgiveness, and other cuts from throughout his career. Tyler Childers joins Prine on the ACL stage for duets on Prine's songs "Please Don't Bury Me" and "Paradise."

"John Prine is a unicorn: a true original among American songwriters, unlike any other," says ACL executive producer Terry Lickona. "What better way to celebrate his birthday week and his nomination to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame than to show what he does best: sing the songs he wrote, old and new, to an adoring audience and with his devilish sense of humor very much intact."

Prine's new Austin City Limits episode, part of the show's 44th season, will debut on Saturday (Oct. 13); it's his eighth appearance on the show since making his debut in 1978, during ACL's third season. To find out when Austin City Limits airs in your area, visit ACLTV.com.
