Jimmie Allen's been known to cover a Matchbox Twenty song or two -- he's a major fan of the band, but his new performance of their song "Unwell" will have you feeling a little bit emotional. Press play above to watch; the clip is part of Taste of Country's RISERS series.

Allen brings his own flair to "Unwell" throughout his performance, but the vocal breakdown at the end is extra special. The 2003 single, from MB20's More Than You Think You Are album, topped the Billboard Adult Top 40 chart for 18 weeks, and earned the band a Grammy Awards nomination.

"I'm not the easiest person to deal with, as far as being in a relationship, because I'm mentally all over the place. I'm focused but not focused. I'm paying attention but not paying attention. And [I'm] guarded, but not guarded. I have issues. I'm unwell," Allen -- who recently opened up about living with bipolar disorder -- tells Taste of Country. "A lot of times, people might fall in love with who you are [in public] ... but the insecurities — they may see things they may not like about you that you may not like about yourself.

"That's the scary part of getting to know someone," Allen adds. "You second guess yourself all the time."

A massive Matchbox Twenty fan, Allen has become friends with the band's leader, Rob Thomas -- who wrote "Unwell" -- in recent years. In the spring of 2018, Thomas complimented a cover of MB20's song "Ever the Same" that Allen posted to Twitter. Replied the country up-and-comer, "You're the master. I'm learning from you."

Allen, who released his debut album, Mercury Lane, in 2018, is spending his summer on tour with Rascal Flatts. He's opening shows on their Summer Playlist Tour, which also features Lee BriceLoCashBilly CurringtonJordan Davis and Morgan Evans.
