
Mock Traffic Stops, Safety Tips at Tuscaloosa County SCLC Forum
The Tuscaloosa County Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) is partnering with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Department and the Tuscaloosa Police Department to host a Community Safety & Law Enforcement Forum.
This important event will take place on Monday, September 8, 2025, at 5 p.m. at the Tuscaloosa Career & Technology Academy located at 2800 Martin Luther King Blvd, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401.

“This event is about building trust, reducing fear, and ensuring that both officers and residents feel confident and secure in how they engage with one another,” said Dr. Chad L. Jackson, TCC SCLC Vice-President
Attendance is free and open to the public, with all community members encouraged to join, learn, and engage in this important conversation.
According to the press release, “this educational forum is designed to provide valuable, real-world knowledge to residents of all ages and backgrounds. Families, students, seniors, and community leaders are encouraged to attend and take part in open dialogue with local law enforcement.”
Representatives from local law enforcement will include the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office: Sheriff Ron Abernathy, Chief Alex Miles, and Lt. Marcus Bell, along with Deputy Chief Severn Sanders from the Tuscaloosa Police Department. The moderators for the forum will be Mary K. from Townsquare Media and Jabaree Prewitt of WVUA 23.
Highlights of the Community Safety & Law Enforcement Forum
- Participate in a mock traffic stop demonstration
- Learn about their rights as drivers and passengers
- Understand general police report procedures
- Gain guidance on how to report interactions if violations may have occurred.

“Our goal is to educate, empower, and unite the community by providing clear information about safety and rights during officer interactions,” said Rev. James Williams, TCC SCLC President.
