Few can argue that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has saved more kids' lives than any medical facility in the USA.

Founded in 1962 by entertainer Danny Thomas, the survival rates for children with cancer were very low.

Fast-forward to 2025 and over 80% of children diagnosed with cancer survive their illness.

Locally, Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa radio brands 95.3 The Bear, 92.9 WTUG, 101.7 The River, 105.1 The Block and Praise 93.3 WTSK, hold an annual radiothon to raise money for the hospital.

The broadcast usually lasts for two days and is hosted by local radio celebs Mary K., Steve & DC, "The Big Dawg" Dre Day, and Brother J.

Staying on the air for hours and hours can be absolutely exhausting for the personalities.

It's worth every extra minute. This year confirms that in a major way.

The radio stars helped raise a record amount of money of just over $100,000.

Six figures in two days is truly an amazing accomplishment.

The radio personalities make it clear that all credit should go to the people of West Alabama.

Mary K., host on both 92.9 WTUG and 95.3 The Bear, said "Wow! Can't thank the people of West Alabama enough for their huge hearts and willingness to help the children".

The representative from St. Jude who helps to coordinate the radiothon, Addie Pratt, told us, "The phone bank was constantly going, and we were trying to keep up with all the calls. In fact, the final two hours in the afternoon came very close to setting a record for the number of people listening and then dialing into the phone bank."

After all the calls were counted and the donations tallied, Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa, found they had gone over the $100,000 for the first time in Tuscaloosa.

That's a pretty good record to aim for in the years to come.
