TSO’s Home for the Holidays: A Celebration of Joy, Tradition, and Community
PRESS RELEASE
The Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra proudly presents its annual Home for the
Holidays concert on Monday, December 9th, at 7:00 PM at Moody Concert Hall. This festive tradition is filled with holiday classics, moving choral performances, and joyful audience participation, creating a magical experience for all.
This year, TSO is thrilled to welcome Dr. Paul Houghtaling, Director of Opera at the University of Alabama, as the guest conductor for Leroy Anderson’s lively Sleigh Ride. Known for his dynamic energy and vibrant artistry, Houghtaling’s appearance adds an extra sparkle to this treasured event.
The evening’s program features highlights from Handel’s Messiah, alongside Victor Herbert’s playful March of the Toys and Saint-Saëns’ Tollite Hostias from Oratorio de Noël. The concert concludes with a festive Christmas Pops Sing-Along, where the audience joins in beloved carols like Silver Bells, Santa Claus is Coming to Town and The Christmas Song.
Enhancing the holiday spirit, TSO’s Principal Second Violinist Joe Ortiguera and his advanced high school strings ensemble from Northridge and Central High Schools will perform during Cheers-n-Chat, a pre-concert event beginning at 6:00 PM. Guests will enjoy holiday music, wine, hors d’oeuvres, and remarks from Maestro Adam Flatt. Proceeds from Cheers-n-Chat support TSO’s education programming, making it a perfect way to celebrate the season while giving back to the community.
