In dominant fashion, Alabama softball took down Alabama State, in just five innings due to the NCAA run rule, by a final score of 11-3 in Tuscaloosa. The Tide scored 11 runs off of 11 hits and also managed to rack up 11 strikeouts with their combination of pitching.

Alabama's offense couldn't be stopped on Wednesday night and as coach Patrick Murphy kept putting in fresh players to get them more experience, the scoreboard still wasn't able to match the Tide's pace. The biggest shot of the night came off the bat of freshman Georgia native KJ Haney. The righty hit a three-run homer in the third inning - Haney's first hit of her college career - to bring almost all hopes of a comeback to a screeching halt.

Coach Murphy, after the short matchup, said, "I can't tell you how much fun it is as a coach to watch a young lady get her first collegiate hit. Obviously, it was a big one. The reaction from the bullpen, the dugout and the crowd warms your heart. It's one of the best feelings in the world and I'm really happy for her. It was a great game...."

Alexis Mack, Elissa Brown, Kat Grill, Kaylee Tow, and Savannah Woodard, respectively, all managed a perfect 2-for-2 from the plate.

Senior RHP Krystal Goodman got the starting nod from "Murph" and wouldn't squander it as she struck out seven of the eleven batters who were unlucky enough to meet her in just three innings of work. Goodman ended the night early - as previously planned by Murph according to the post-game conference - after throwing 46 pitches while only allowing one hit and one walk.

Graduate RHP Sarah Cornell and freshman RHP Jaala Torrence combined their efforts to close out the evening and both managed to record two strikeouts in their respective innings of work.

Following the game - as grounds crew members were restoring the diamond to playing shape - junior RHP Montana Fouts was seen taking ground balls and bunts from the pitching circle with teammate Bailey Hemphill covering first for defensive drills.

The Crimson Tide moves on to 32-5 (11-4 in SEC play) for the 2021 campaign and South Alabama remains the only team in the state to have beaten one of the SEC's top contenders.

Coach Murphy and the Tide hope that Wednesday night's performance continues into the weekend as No. 4/No.5 Florida makes the 450-plus mile trek to Tuscaloosa for a three-game series of likely the two best teams in the conference. Game one of the matchup takes place on Friday, April 16 at 6:00 PM CST in Rhoads Stadium.
