Before you get too excited by seeing the phrase “cool down,” it’s still the summer season in Alabama. However, West Alabama residents will enjoy a break from the scorching temperatures and high humidity levels soon.

Currently, you may notice a difference in the temperature as heat levels decrease. Today, Thursday, August 21, there is the potential for showers and thunderstorms this afternoon through midnight.

During the week of August 25, the state of Alabama will be under a range of temperatures ranging from “leaning below to likely below” at a 60 to 70% chance, said the National Weather Center – Climate Prediction Center. 

What is Causing the Cooling?

Next week, below-normal temperatures are expected to settle over the southern region in the wake of a passing cold front.

While it won’t be time to break out the heavy sweaters just yet, the dip in temperatures will offer a break from the summer heat. It’s like we are getting a small preview of the fall season that is just right around the corner.
