Portions of Alabama could face showers and thunderstorms during the holiday weekend.

“Understand the weekend won't be a wash-out at all, but from time to time, a passing shower or storm is possible,” said James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist.

Saturday Outlook

Strong thunderstorms could approach Central Alabama from the northwest (Mississippi) on Saturday, May 24, during the afternoon through evening.

Currently, the Storm Prediction Center has portions of Alabama under a marginal risk for Saturday. This includes the entire Townsquare Media coverage area, which includes Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties.

The severe weather threats that are a concern are damaging winds with gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail.
