A recall of burritos served in the school lunch program nationwide, including Alabama, has been announced as of today.
In fact, we spoke with a couple of our friends with school districts here in West Alabama who confirmed that these recalls definitely impact our region.
They are the ready-to-eat type of burritos, and the concern is that they are contaminated with Listeria, which can be very dangerous and cause serious illness.
The recall, managed by the USDA, affects over 90,000 pounds of meat used in school lunch burritos.
These products are included in the national school lunch program, and here is the important label information to check on:
- El Más Fino: Egg, ham and cheese breakfast burrito – item code 00607
- El Más Fino: Egg, sausage and cheese breakfast burrito – item code 00608
- Los Cabos: Sausage, egg and 3 cheese brakfast burrito – item code 61304
- Los Cabos: Egg, cheese, potato and cooked sausage crumble breakfast wrap – item codes 77869 and 97869

According to the USDA, the recalled products have the establishment numbers “EST. 1162A” or “P-5890A” printed in the USDA mark of inspection.
