When our home renovations began last July, I asked my boys how they wanted their rooms designed. My eldest, Jesse wanted an Alabama room and, while I'm a huge Alabama fan, I was a little let down by his obvious choice. I'd been hoping to spread my creative wings and didn't think there was anyway to make his room different than other amazing Alabama rooms I'd seen before.

I considered my options for a couple of months and somewhere along the way, I adopted the mantra of 'go big or go home'. If he wanted an Alabama room, he would have an Alabama room.

I reached out to our friend Kameron Thrasher and asked him was he up to the challenge of creating a large 'A' template we could later use to cut a permanent 6' wooden A that would be mounted on the wall.

A few days later, he sent me a picture of the template he'd traced and cut from a large cardboard box:

Obviously, he nailed it so I encouraged him to move forward. A couple of weeks later, he sent me this:

As awesome as the A was propped up in Kameron's shop, the image didn't do it justice of seeing it finally mounted on the wall.

Using small wooden cubes (approximately 1 1/2"), Kameron was able to mount the A away from the wall to give the A some dimension without ruining the effect.

I showed a picture to Jesse. He said, "I had no idea...Roll Tide.'
