I wrote an article earlier this week about ‘No Shave November’ and have since learned that I may have had a few lines crossed in my research and the facts I gave.

‘No Shave November’ does exist, they do have websites, Facebook pages and YouTube videos. I could not find a no shave website that raised money to prevent prostate cancer as previously stated.

I did mention the website Movember.com and wanted to state they are the only official mustache growing charity (not beards) that raises awareness and money for prostate and testicular cancer initiatives. Their goal is make each participant of ‘Movember’ a walking billboard about the organization and the concerns of men’s health.

These men are called Mo Bros with the ladies in their lives being called Mo Sistas and together, through the act of shaving and then growing their “stache” become conversation pieces and get the positive talk flowing with others and hopefully drive up donations for a few programs they fund such as Livestrong and the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

There are rules to ‘Movember’ and you can find them here, should you want to participate.

The phenomenon has spread from Australia to South Africa, Europe and North America and according to their website, “In 2011, over 854,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas around the world got on board, raising $126.3 million USD.”

Cancer is a multi-headed monster hell bent on taking an estimated 577,190 lives in the United States alone in 2012 according to ‘A Cancer Journal for Clinicians’ found here.

Whether you grow a mustache, grow a beard, participate in a walk, or do what I do and run races, keep in mind that we all have seen what cancer does and can do. We can also be proactive and learn all we can about prevention and financially help when possible.
