Mac Jones Picked No. 15 Overall by the New England Patriots

On Thursday former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones was selected with the No. 15 pick in the first round in the NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.

Jones becomes the 11th player Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has drafted that played under Nick Saban in college, extending the record for the most players taken by a pro-college coach combo in the Common Draft era.

In his career, Jones passed for for 6,126 and 56 TD's. Jones in his junior season led the Crimson Tide to an impressive 13-0 record against the SEC winning both the conference championship as well as the program's 18th National Championship.

Jones finished the season by winning the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, the Davey O' Brien Award and the Manning award. In addition to those trophies, Jones was a Heisman Finalist losing that award to his star wide-receiver and NFL hopeful Devonta Smith. Jones would set the school’s single-season passing record with 4,500 yards through the air. His 41 passing touchdowns were just two away from tying former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s single-season mark set over 15 games in 2018.

Jones also took down a pair of national records as well. His 77.4 percent completion rate tops the previous NCCA single-season best of 76.7 percent set by Texas’ Colt McCoy in 2008. Meanwhile, Jones’ 203.06 passer efficiency rating passed the NCAA single-season record of 201.96 set by LSU’s Joe Burrow in 2019.

It isn't hard to see why Jones was selected in the first round and is one of the best passers in Alabama football history. The story of Mac Jones in the NFL is just beginning, but Jones will forever be remembered for the patience, poise and hard work in his time with the Crimson Tide.
