Mac Jones Inspires Ty Simpson to Commit to Alabama
On Friday, Alabama gained another elite quarterback recruit commitment in Ty Simpson, a 5-star from the class of 2022.
It was a seemingly surprising commitment, as the Crimson Tide have a crowded QB room coming into this season. Bryce Young, Jalen Milroe, and Paul Tyson will all still be at Alabama by the time Simpson arrives in 2022.
And with the quarterback position, only one player can be on the field as the established guy. There is typically no shared starting time, and if there is, it does not turn out well.
So, why would the 5-star want to come to Alabama and compete for a job when he could start elsewhere?
There was another quarterback who entered a highly crowded Alabama QB room, waited his turn, improved every year, and ultimately had a historic season when he got his opportunity. Mac Jones committed to Alabama despite being in the same class as superstar recruit Tua Tagovailoa, and now he is arguably one of the greatest Alabama quarterbacks of all-time after his outstanding 2020 campaign.
Simpson saw the route that Jones took, and he wants that for himself. It is hard to argue with his logic. Simpson seems to have the right mentality for success in the Alabama football program.
He trusts Nick Saban, and he trusts new offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien. His ultimate goal, as with all high profile recruits, is an NFL chance. Nobody is better at producing NFL talent than Alabama, and Mac Jones is a prime example of it.
Everyone sees the winning culture, and they want to be a part of it, even if it means waiting for their shot. Ty Simpson can come to Alabama and "trust the process" because he has seen it work with Mac Jones.
