In the second to last week in West Alabama high school football, the Tuscaloosa Academy Knights fell to the Monroe Academy Volunteers by a score of 40-33. As of this evening's loss, Tuscaloosa Academy has been eliminated from playoff contention.

Tuscaloosa Academy, under the direction of head coach Todd Bradford, wasn't able to attain the lead throughout the entire 48 minutes of play on Friday evening; however, the Knights refused to let Monroe Academy rest and answered after each Volunteer score to stay in the bout.

Despite the tough loss, Tuscaloosa Academy's junior gunslinger, Whitt Winfield, managed to rack up a total of 369 yards of offense with four passing touchdowns. Another highlight for Tuscaloosa Academy came from the senior receiver Bo Abston who, on only four catches, hung up three touchdowns from 82 yards of offense.

For the visiting Volunteers, Friday nights' win is now the third in-a-row in a playoff-bound, 6-3, season. Keys to the road win would have to be the 575 yards of total offense from Monroe along with balance in the attack. For head coach Mitch Tuberville's Vols, three separate offensive players, not including their starting QB, had multiple touchdowns for the outing.
