The Gordo Greenwave (4-1, 3-0) didn't allow homecoming festivities to distract from a chance to send a message to the rest of its region competition. The Greenwave washed out the Tarrant Wildcats (1-3, 0-3) by score of 49-0.

"Well, we had to overcome a lot with Homecoming festivities and I thought our guys came out and played hard and we executed and we did the things we were supposed to do. This is what we thought we was going to happen. What I just them is, 'Tarrant's not as bad as the score is. I think we just played really well and it was our time,'" said Gordo head coach Gus Smith.

Gordo dominated both lines of scrimmage throughout the ballgame and used just 16 offensive plays in the first half to put up all 49 points in the game and send the Wildcats back to Birmingham licking their wounds.

The Greenwave opened the game by forcing a three-and-out defensively after Gordo linebacker Blane Chandler got into the backfield and sacked Tarrant quarterback Andre Raines. Raines was sacked three times on five drop-backs.

The Gordo offense matched its defense's intensity by scoring on just one play. Senior running back Rayshawn Williams took a handoff off the right hand side and raced 42 yards down the sidelines to pay-dirt.

An unfortunate fumbled snap, recovered by senior Kohl Summerville put an end to Tarrant next drive and set up the Greenwave at mid-field.

It only took four snaps for Gordo to find the endzone for the second time of the night. Senior quarterback Brax Garrison, on his birthday, found Ethan Wilder for a 27-yard touchdown pass on a fly route.

"We had a good week preparing and we came out and executed. I'm very proud of these guys. We played well. When you practice hard all week, you come out and you execute," said Garrison.

Greenwave sophomore Camron Lark put a stop to the next Tarrant drive by getting into the backfield for an 11-yard sack for a loss on third-and-11 and forcing a punt.

The birthday boy got Gordo on the board again just two-plays later with a 61-yard touchdown scamper. The 6-foot-3 quarterback weaved through the Wildcats defense and raced to the endzone for his second touchdown of the evening. Garrison finished the night 3-of-5 passing for 56 yards and a touchdown, he carried the ball three times for 90 yards and another score.

"I feel like in the air I've improved a lot being poised in the pocket and going through my progressions and then running the ball I've gotten a lot faster and stronger so I've definitely improved a lot since last year," said Garrison.

Tarrant couldn't get out of its own way as the Wildcats fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Gordo recovered on the 33-yardline, leaving the Greenwave with the shortest field it had faced yet. Sure enough three plays later Kohl Summerville found himself in the endzone on a 4-yard rush. Summerville also cashed in the 2-point conversion to put Gordo up 29-0.

The Wildcats then managed its best drive of the game at the top of the 2nd quarter. Tarrant worked its way to midfield after gaining 20 yards on seven plays, unfortunately they were stopped and forced to punt, but they were able to pin Gordo back on its own 14-yard line.

It didn't matter. Rayshawn Williams struck again just three plays later on a 90-yard touchdown run while facing a third-and-14. Williams took a handoff to the left and outran everyone down the sidelines to put the preverbal nail in the coffin.

Williams cashed in his third score of the game after Gordo once again forced a sack with a fumble, this time from senior Corterius White. Williams finished the evening with 6 carries, 134 yards and 3 touchdowns.

"We had a good week of practice, the O-line did their thing and we came out strong," said Williams of his stellar evening.

The final Greenwave touchdown came from Chrisjavion Lark on the last possession of the first half. Lark took a handoff 19-yards to cap the scoring for the evening.

Defensively Gordo only allowed Tarrant to tally 34 total yards for the evening and attain four first downs. The clock ran in the second half but that didn't stop Tarrant from losing another fumble in the contest, bringing their total turnovers for the game to five.

"We're getting better. We're climbing and climbing and climbing. We had a realization when we played Bibb County. I keep telling them every week I'm not going to say Bibb County anymore but every week it comes out of my mouth. I'll never forget that as long as I live. We weren't ready but I think we were ready this time and we're getting better and better," said Smith.

The Greenwave are now tied with Oakman in the region with a perfect 3-0 record. Gordo will hit the road next week to take on Pickens County in the annual "Eight Mile War".
