Stretch of Highway 43 to Be Named in Memory of Pregnant Mother of 4 Killed in Wreck

A mile-long stretch of U.S. Highway 43 will be renamed tomorrow in memory of Audra Rogers, the pregnant mother of four who was killed in a head-on collision with another woman in July 2021.

As the Thread has previously reported, Rogers was driving her four sons down along Highway 43 outside Samatha when another woman, Anna Dalrymple, reportedly crossed the center line and struck Rogers head-on.

Rogers and her unborn child were killed in the wreck, all four children with Rogers were injured, and Dalrymple and her own young child were also hurt.

Dalrymple has since been charged with reckless murder and five counts of felony assault after an investigation allegedly found Xanax, Klonopin, the nerve medicine Gabapentin and methadone in her system after the collision.

On Friday, State Senator Gerald Allen will help lead a small ceremony to honor Rogers and rename the portion of highway between Mile Markers 212 and 213 in her memory.

Allen sponsored a Senate Joint Resolution last year that made the renaming possible.

"The loss of Ms. Rogers is devastating to her family and community where she was highly regarded; Audra was an accomplished bodybuilder and a three-time state record holder in powerlifting; she was a beauty queen and held the title of 2021 World’s Ms. Alabama Tourism; she was a respiratory therapist and first responder; and she was a community volunteer; but, most importantly, she was a devoted mother, daughter, and friend," Allen said in the resolution. "Audra was an inspiration to many who followed her fitness and weightlifting journey on social media; she is fondly remembered by friends and family for her contagious joy, infectious smile, and uplifting sense of humor."

Allen will be joined by Tony Harris from the Alabama Department of Transportation and members of Rogers' family for the Friday morning ceremony and unveiling of the roadsign in her honor.
