A group of public-spirited professionals is thanking the people of Tuscaloosa for their best-ever Christmas Tree Sale, which raises money every year for the local YMCA.

Dennis Stanard, who heads up community relations for the Y's Men's Club, said they have been selling Christmas trees in Tuscaloosa for more than 60 years and last year was a record-setter for the group.

Using proceeds from the sale, the Y's Men's Club has presented an $18,000 check to the YMCA and Stanard said the funds will be distributed to three areas of need there.

The lion's share, $10,000, will be used to build a 1,000-square-foot outdoor exercise area adjacent to the downtown YMCA, complete with fencing and storage.

An additional $2,000 will be used to purchase baseball equipment and uniforms for children in need.

Finally, the club will fund 60 individual summer camp scholarships to be provided free of charge to children in need.

"We're grateful to Tuscaloosa for supporting our annual Christmas Tree Sale," said Dennis Stanard, Community Relations member of the Y's Men's Club. "We're pleased that the funds we've raised can be used to support such worthy causes at the YMCA."

The Club thanked the Tuscaloosa community for their continued support of their initiatives and Stanard said they are already looking forward to next year's sale, which is expected to return to their regular home in front of the Bowlero Bowling Center.
