‘House Whiskey’ to Headline DCMH Free Summer Concert Series Thursday

The Nashville-based group “House Whiskey” will bring their “boot-stomping, beer raising” country-rock sound to Druid City Music Hall’s “Free Summer Concert Series.”

The band – comprised of lead singer Jesse Murphy and two co-lead guitarists, Wally Montgomery and Michael Wilkes – began playing together in 2013. Wilkes and Murphy connected through a mutual friend and began writing songs together.

Soon after, Wilkes invited Montgomery who was a friend of his, to join the duo and officially form House Whiskey.

“We started writing together all the time, and just really hit it off,” Wilkes said.

House Whiskey is both “country in nature with a rock n’ roll edge,” according to Murphy. Finding the name came about naturally as it seemed to perfectly fit their country-rock aesthetic.

While the band mostly sticks to their own unique sound, they do draw inspiration from popular groups like the Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Alabama.

“We really thought it would be cool to do an old-school band type of thing,” Wilkes said.

While they may only be performing for one night this time around, 'House Whiskey is looking forward to coming back to Druid City Music Hall in September and October on an official tour.

“We wanted to come in and say what’s up to Tuscaloosa before we come back on our tour with a couple of other acts,” Wilkes said.

During shows and concerts, “Tomorrow We Ride” is the band’s favorite song to perform. They are also excited to perform their latest EP, “Drink it Off,” which was released April 16 of this year.

COVID-19 restrictions certainly put a damper on the band’s ability to get together, with most of their writing sessions over the past year having to be on Zoom. However, with most concert venues opening back up at full capacity, House Whiskey has slowly worked its way back up to consistently performing.

“It was a challenging year,” Murphy said. “But we are definitely ready to get music back to the people out there and start living again.”

The future seems both promising and busy for House Whiskey, as they have both a plethora of recording sessions and summer tours ahead of them. If you can’t catch them tonight at Druid City Music Hall, they will be performing at Down South Music Fest on July 24 in Opp, Alabama.

Their music is also available to stream on both Spotify and Apple Music.
