Gulf & Alabama Residents Monitor for Potential Storm Developments
We are monitoring the possible development of a broad low-pressure area that might emerge in the northwestern Caribbean Sea and nearby areas of Central America by early to mid-next week.
It has a near-zero chance in the next 48 hours and a medium (60 percent) chance in the next 7 days.
The National Hurricane Center said, “Thereafter, gradual development of this system is possible, and a tropical depression could form as the system moves slowly to the north or northwest over the northwestern Caribbean Sea and across the Gulf of Mexico through the end of next week.”
“Until there is a low-level center and data from hurricane hunters are gathered and baked into model output, a specific forecast is impossible,” said James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist
The National Weather Service in Birmingham said, “There are no specifics at this time for residents across the Gulf Coast region, but this is something to monitor as we step through next week.”
Predicted Time Range
Spann said, “This could be anything from a broad low/rainmaker to a high-impact hurricane, with a potential impact anywhere from Louisiana to Florida in the Friday-Sunday time frame (September 27-29).
The Townsquare Media Weather Center will continue monitoring this potential tropical development and inform you about what it could mean for the Gulf Coast, Alabama coastline, and West Alabama.
