Drunkest Counties? Where Did Tuscaloosa Rank?
The Drunkest Counties in America are ALL in One State
Using data from County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, 24/7 Wall St. identified the U.S. counties with the highest excessive drinking rates.
Each day in Alabama and around the country, adults gather at social functions or dinner tables and have a drink.
Moderate drinking is defined as two "standard" drinks for men, and one "standard" drink for the ladies. However, when we are over that mark things can get sticky in a hurry.
Excessive drinking, along with tobacco use and little exercise, is the cause of many health issues in Alabama and the USA. Each year, alcohol abuse is linked to serious diseases and traffic accidents.
Counties were ranked on the share of adults who either binge drink or drink heavily.
Binge drinking is the consumption of more than four drinks in a single occasion for women and more than five drinks for men, while heavy drinking is defined as more than one drink a day on average for women and more than two drinks a day for men.
In every county on this list, more than one in every four adults drink excessively, while nationwide, fewer than one in five do.
