Details on Late December Potential Snow Flurries in Alabama
The Townsquare Media Weather Center has been closely observing the possibility of flurries occurring in Alabama. It seems this will be a minor precipitation event with no significant accumulations anticipated.
Timing
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said, "A cold core upper low will bring the chance of light rain/snow showers to the northern third of Alabama Friday and Friday night.”
The most favorable period for snow showers is expected to occur from noon to midnight on Friday night.
The Possible Areas That Could See Flurries
The northeast corner of Alabama is the most likely area to experience a few snow showers. A flake or two may reach as far south as I-20, but it is not very probable. Instead, there is a higher chance of encountering a few raindrops in that region.
With the “warm soil conditions and air temperatures above freezing, meaningful snow accumulation isn't expected. Most communities will reach the mid-40s on Friday afternoon, said Spann.
As expressed in the past, winter weather is difficult to gauge in the southern region for various reasons. We will continue to monitor this pending weather situation.
