The Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division is sending out an urgent message to all Alabama residents as the summer heats up. The message serves as a warning that could lead to deadly situations involving a particular animal.
Believe it or not, alligators aren't just in Florida. They are definitely in the state of Alabama. According to Outdoor Alabama, alligators are found statewide in Alabama. Higher densities of alligators occur in wetland habitats such as coastal marshes, swamps, lakes, rivers, and reservoirs.
There are many ways to avoid alligator attacks in the state of Alabama. Some of those tips from Outdoor Alabama are to:
- Always Be Alert
- Swim Responsibly
- Watch Your Pets
- Photograph at A Distance
- Don’t Throw Fish Scraps in the Water
- Seek Medical Help If Bitten
A major tip happens to be one that the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division shared on their social media to warn residents.

"It's A VERY BAD IDEA to feed alligators," The Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division
"It's also illegal," the post continued. "Teaching alligators to approach humans for food may give you a kick but it can create a dangerous situation for the next person it approaches."
With hunting season on the way, alligator hunters in Alabama should be aware of the regulations and restrictions around hunting in Alabama.
