Crimson Tide Gets Positive News About Forward Juwan Gary’s Injury
Alabama sophomore forward Juwan Gary exited Friday's game against South Dakota State in the first half with an injury after landing awkwardly coming down from a block. He did not return in the second half of the game after going to the locker room, causing concern among Tide basketball fans about the severity of his injury.
Head coach Nate Oats updated the media Monday on the status of Gary's injury.
"Juwan’s got a right-ankle injury that’s day-to-day. He did not practice today. We’ll see what it looks like tomorrow," Oats said. "It’s going to be a day-to-day. I would probably say if we were in the NFL terms, Juwan Gary would be doubtful for tomorrow, but he will not be out long-term."
Gary has not started either of the two games this season, but has made some great plays for the Tide so far coming off the bench. He had a double-double in the season opener, with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals. In just the eight minutes he played before leaving the court on Friday night, he had an assist and two rebounds.
Coach Oats did say redshirt-freshman forward Alex Tchikou will be available to add some depth off the bench on Tuesday night after missing the first two games due to a suspension. Tchikou missed all of last season after rupturing his Achilles prior to the start of the season.
This will likely be the first time we get to see Tchikou on the court for the Crimson Tide. He was a 4-star prospect on 247Sports coming out of high school when he signed with Alabama. He was ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 36 overall player and the No. 6 power forward in the 2020 class.
The Crimson Tide take on South Alabama in Coleman Coliseum on Tuesday night at 6:30 P.M. central time and it will be available for you to listen live right here on Tide 100.9 FM as well as on SEC Network+.
