“Sewell alternates between hosting her job fair in urban and rural regions to ensure the unique needs of each community are met,” said the press release.

This year, the event will be hosted in Tuscaloosa at the McDonald Hughes Community Center, located at 3101 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The job fair is free and open to the public. While pre-registration is not required, it is strongly encouraged. Click here for registration details.

Why is the Annual Job Fair Important to Congresswoman Sewell?

In an interview with Mary K. of 92.9 WTUG, Sewell said, “The median unemployment for the 13 counties that I represent was 13.9% when I first got into office, and so we had some of the black belt experiencing 18% unemployment, 20% unemployment.”

"I made a promise and felt it was part of my job to connect my constituents with great economic opportunities. And one way to do that is to make sure that we have an Annual Job Fair where we bring in employers all across the state.”

Current Outlook on the Unemployment Rate

“Over the last 14 years, we've seen our unemployment go from 13.9% to a median of 5.3%,” said Sewell.

The signature job fair event will showcase more than 70 employers representing 10 different industries.

In the 92.9 WTUG interview, Sewell expressed excitement about the annual job fair and shared two tips for attendees: “Come dressed for success, with resume in hand.”
