Charlie Strong Joins Alabama’s Coaching Staff
Alabama has officially hired Charlie Strong as an analyst for the 2020 football season. Strong previously served as head coach at South Florida for the previous three seasons. Strong will be limited on the practice field to just observing but will beneficial to the defensive side of the football in meeting rooms and in game planning for the 2020 schedule. Strong returns to the SEC where he has spent 20 of his 37 years of experience in college coaching.
Strong becomes the sixth former head coach currently on Alabama’s coaching staff, joining Butch Jones, Mike Stoops and Major Applewhite in an analyst role; while Steve Sarkisian and Kyle Flood have on field roles. Strong may have been in consideration for an on field role at Alabama but by settling for an off-field analyst role he kept his buy-out from South Florida intact. Strong was responsible for the defensive side of the ball at the University of Florida when they last won national championships under Urban Meyer.
