Alabama quarterback Bryce Young has been named SEC Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. Young put on a Heisman worthy performance in the Crimson Tide’s 42-35 win over Arkansas, the sophomore went 31-of-40 for an Alabama record 559 yards and five touchdowns. The previous record was set by Scott Hunter back in 1969.

Young connected with Jameson Williams for three touchdowns for the second week in a row, he also threw one to John Metchie and one to Christian Leary. It was the third time this season he's thrown five touchdown passes in a game.

“That’s a blessing, for sure,” Young said. “For all the great quarterbacks that have played here, to have an accomplishment like that is definitely a blessing.”

“It’s gonna go down and it’s gonna be written as something I did, but in reality, that’s a reflection of the whole team,” Young said. “That’s my O-line protecting for me. That’s the receivers making my job easy and getting open. Running backs helping in both, in the pass and run game. And (Bill O’Brien) calling great plays. So it’s really a team accomplishment.”

The California native has been rewriting the Alabama record book all season. Young opened the season by throwing for the most passing yards and touchdowns in a starting debut in Alabama history against Miami. A few weeks later against Southern Miss, Young was the first player in school history with five passing touchdowns and two or fewer incompletions in a game. He also became the first player in Alabama history with 350+ passing yards and two rushing touchdowns in a game against Tennessee.

Last week, Young became the first player in school history to throw five touchdown passes in a single half and to complete his first 13 passes. Young ranks first in the SEC in passing touchdowns (38), quarterback rating (186.23) and second in passing yards (3,584), completions (263) and completion percentage (71.6).
