Bite This! Drops In on Tuscaloosa’s Newest Italian Restaurant
A new Italian restaurant has joined the culinary scene along HWY 69 in South Tuscaloosa. And I tend to favor Italian dishes, so this addition made me very excited. A friend was in town, so we visited Tony's Italian Grill.
Presentation:
A warm and friendly hostess promptly welcomed us and showed us to our table. Our waitress was kind, approachable, plus impressively well-informed about the menu.
The setup feels typical for a new start-up restaurant repurposing the space of a former eatery.
Here is what we ordered:
For an appetizer, we had the Calamari, which was well done and enjoyed by both of us. Then a basket of garlic bread buns (not sure of the official name) was presented, and it was like a party at our table. I ordered the Chicken Piccata dish, and my friend ordered the Pasta Bolognese.
Food Overview:
The Calamari was excellent. I wish it were a bit crisper, but my friend liked how it was served. It had a nice, rich marinara sauce for dipping.
The garlic bread buns were amazing. It’s hard to explain, but they had a nice soft center and the right amount of crisp outer shell.
Before diving into the main dishes, we both agreed that the portions were quite generous, making them perfect for sharing with others at dinner or saving for a delicious lunch the next day. We had enough to do both.
The review of the Pasta Bolognese was top-notch. The sauce was thick and meaty, making for a hearty pasta dish. I sneaked in a bite, and I agree it was really well done.
The Chicken Piccata was nicely done, the chicken was tasty, and the pasta was perfectly done. The sauce tasted delicious, but it was a tad bit too thin for me. I prefer a lemon butter caper sauce that is slightly thicker, not as thick as gravy, but a sauce that can coat the chicken and pasta.

Value:
I was treated that night, but from what I understand, the prices were perfectly fine. I have to hear about "how we should have ordered to-go desserts."
Overall:
Great new spot to satisfy your Italian craving.
