Walk for a Cause: Tuscaloosa Event Honors Local Woman’s Legacy
On Saturday, October 11th, a Tuscaloosa organization by the name of Alpha Omicron Kappa will hold a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk at the Buddy Powell Pavilion.
Alpha Omicron Kappa, better known as AOK, is a youth leadership organization founded on academic excellence, community service, unity, and sisterhood.

AOK started this breast cancer walk in 2020 in remembrance of a fellow member, LaKendria Stephens, who passed away from breast cancer. The organization took it upon itself to start a movement to honor LaKendria Stephens and others who have lost their lives to breast cancer.
The event is being hosted at the Buddy Powell Pavilion on Saturday, October 10th. It will begin at 11a and end at 1p.
"We're super excited about it. We have someone coming out to share her story about breast cancer. She's in her 20s. She was diagnosed at the age of 19," said Jacnikia Cowan an advisor for AOK.
"This walk is to bring awareness to the community about breast cancer and to let them know that they’re not on this journey alone,"
"Awareness for breast cancer needs to be spread to the community so that people can know how to approach the situation and go about it. Breast cancer is a serious disease and should be supported by everyone in society."
AOK is asking everyone in the community to wear pink and come out and walk with them to bring awareness to breast cancer and show the people affected that society cares.
