Aliceville, Alabama Teen Jabari Peoples Shooting Ruled Justified
No criminal charges will be filed in connection with the officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of 18-year-old Jabari Peoples of Aliceville, Alabama.

Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr stated that the decision was made after his office received and reviewed body camera footage from the incident.
92.9 WTUG News Report Shelia Smoot was live on location at the Jefferson County Criminal Courts building in downtown Birmingham for a press conference held by the family of Peoples.
Smoot reported that Carr released a video today to Attorney Ben Crump and the family members of Jabari Peoples. Crump called the video a clip, and still believes Jabari Peoples had no gun and was begging for his life when he was shot in the back as he ran from the police officer.
As reported by the Tuscaloosa Thread, Peoples was shot on June 23 “during an interaction with a Homewood Police Officer at a park near Lakeshore Boulevard.”
Crump says the video clip he saw never showed Peoples with a gun, and the video also has sounds of Peoples voice pleading with the officer that he was not resisting arrest.
Carr says it appears a gun was present at some point. Crump says that to determine that, they need the entire video.
Attorney for the Peoples family, Crump, said that the parents of Peoples did not view the video, but his siblings were present to view the body camera footage.
During the news conference, Peoples sister spoke to reporters and said that her brother “was running for his life, even to the point where he was shot in the back. He was telling the officer, Sir, I promise I'm not trying to resist. This is my cell phone. This is my phone.”
When referencing the video, Peoples sister said, “We would like to see the true, unedited version.”
