Alert: Marginal Risk for Severe Weather for West, Central Alabama
On Friday, an incoming weather system poses a risk of severe weather and flooding possibilities for the Townsquare Media coverage area. However, the anticipated weekend rainfall has shown a decreasing trend in precipitation levels.
The “cold front will approach the region Friday, stalling over the area over the weekend,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
FRIDAY OUTLOOK
Risk Areas
The Storm Prediction Center introduced a "marginal risk," a level 1 out of 5 for severe thunderstorms for a good portion of Alabama on Friday.
Threats
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said that the “heavier thunderstorms Friday will be capable of producing hail and strong, gusty winds."
"Tornadoes are not expected based on the forecast wind profiles. Rain amounts on Friday will be in the 1–2-inch range for most of the state.”
Timing
The current timing of the severe weather is from Friday morning through Friday evening.
Weekend Outlook
“The weekend forecast is trending drier,” said Spann.
Saturday is anticipated to have isolated showers, whereas Sunday may see some rainfall, with the greatest coverage expected over the southern two-thirds of Alabama.
Overall Flooding Potential
There is still a concern for minor flooding across portions of Alabama, Friday through Sunday.
