Totally Cool, Inc. from Owings Mills, Maryland, is issuing a recall for several ice cream brands due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), the “products were distributed nationwide, and available in retail locations and direct delivery.”

What is Listeria Monocytogenes?

It is an organism that can lead to severe and occasionally deadly infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

“Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women,” said the FDA.

At the time of this report, no illnesses have been reported.
