Over the last few weeks, West Alabama has experienced temperatures below the seasonal average with no winter surprises.
Though the South is known for its gentle winters, many Alabamians are still wishing for a rare blanket of snow to make a winter wonderland on Christmas Day.

What Qualifies as a White Christmas?
The "probability of a white Christmas based on data from the 1981-2010 three-decade averages,” said the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). “A white Christmas is defined as having 1 inch or more of snow on the ground Christmas morning."
Regional Probability of a White Christmas
According to The 2026 Old Farmer’s Almanac, “most of the United States will be seeing a milder, gentler winter than average.”
