After sweeping Georgia on the road, Alabama softball (40-7) kept its offense going in its final SEC series matchup. In game one of the series against Ole Miss (34-17), the Crimson Tide shut out the Rebels, 8-0, in five offensive innings. Elissa Brown hit a walk-off single in the fifth to end the game and Montana Fouts held the Rebels to just two hits.

Left-handed hitter, Elissa Brown, is known for slapping. But, with the chance to close out the game in the fifth inning she took a different approach.

Swinging on the first pitch, she hit the ball up center field and sent the final run of the game over the plate for the Crimson Tide to secure the shutout.

Fouts pitched a no-hitter through four innings, when it was broken up. Afterwards she just allowed one more hit in the top of the fifth inning.

Fouts continued to show her dominance in the circle as she has all season by throwing eight strikeouts. She threw six strikeouts to the first 11 batters she faced. Seven batters followed them in the next two innings.

The junior threw 76 pitches through five innings and allowed just two walks and two hits.

“Montana threw a shut-out no-hitter,” said Murphy. “Eight strikeouts against a really good team.”

Although there were some close home runs tonight, small ball was the name of the game. The Alabama Crimson Tide hit eleven singles and two doubles. As a whole the team racked up 13 hits and every batter in the lineup can take credit for that total.

“Now this is just one of our most complete wins of the year,” said head coach Patrick Murphy. “Everybody in the lineup got a hit, we only struck out once, we walked three times and we didn’t commit an error… I’m so proud of my group and the way they persevered through this whole year, and just a great win and a great way to start a series at home.”

Alabama will face Ole Miss in game two of the series Friday May, 7 at 6 p.m. CT. Tune in to Praise 93.3 to listen.
