Alabama Shoppers: “Tariff Surcharge” Now on Your Purchases!
The economy has been a topic of discussion in America, especially since the second term of President Donald Trump began. Many have voiced their opinions on the current state of the economy, and the President has begun new tariffs on other countries.
According to a White House memo, President Trump will impose an individualized reciprocal higher tariff on the countries with which the United States has the largest trade deficits. All other countries will continue to be subject to the original 10% tariff baseline.
The memo states that this will take effect April 9, 2025 at 12:01 a.m. EDT.
Many believe that these tariffs will encourage a recession in the U.S. according to a Tik Tok video posted by CNBC, the recession risk is above 55%.
It seems that current tariffs on certain countries are already affecting consumers in America. Could you believe there are now line items being added to purchases specifically for tariffs?
According to an article from Financial Express, companies in the U.S are adding tariff surcharges to their orders.
According to the article, a Reddit user posted that his wife’s friend paid a tariff surcharge when she bought summer clothes for her kids from Fabletics – a global active lifestyle brand: “I am sure this is going to be the new norm when buying.”

Could you imagine this being the new normal when making purchases? Alabama currently has an average combined state and local sales tax rate of 9.43%, which is the fifth highest in the country.
