Alabama Ranks Among Worst U.S. School Systems
Consistently changing every year especially since the 90s. Choosing a school for your child can be a difficult task, particularly if your child has special needs. Schooling can be the difference in the education for your child, so that is very important.
With private schooling being on the more expensive side, public schools are in the majority of options. Funding is one of the main factors of quality when it comes to public education from state to state.
WalletHub put together a list of the best & worst school systems based on performance, funding, safety, class size, and instructor credentials. On the list, the top 5 were Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Virginia, and New Hampshire.
Massachusetts has some of the best test scores in the country and ranks first in the nation in all core academic subjects this year: fourth and eighth grade math and reading scores. They also have the highest share of students in the country who received a score of 3 or better on an AP exam.
According to the list, Alabama came in at number 43 which was surprisingly low on the list with 1 being the best and 25 being average. This means Alabama has the 9th WORST school system in America.

Between the underfunding of schools, socioeconomic challenges, and teacher shortages and retention issues, these things are factors that reflect the state’s scores.
In Alabama, these things are not impossible to fix. There is room for improvement and it’s very possible to make that happen. It would take a lot, but if we invested more into education, we would be able to start heading towards that goal.
