Alabama Alumnus Robby Shelton Wins BMW Charity Pro-Am
Professional golfer and University of Alabama graduate Robby Shelton won the BMW Charity Pro-Am at Thornblade Club on Sunday, earning his third-career win in the Korn Ferry Tour.

The 26-year old earned the victory in rather suspenseful fashion, holding off playing partner Ben Griffin in the second hole of a playoff. Shelton entered the final round of the event 22-under par, but shot an even-par final round to keep it anyone’s game. Griffin erased a 5-shot deficit, capped off with birdies on holes 16 and 17, and with a par on the 18th.
Perhaps the highlight and most special moment of the win was the celebration, as Shelton’s mom and dad, his fiancée Kelsie, and his canine companion Riggs were all present to celebrate his first win since May of 2019.
Shelton was awarded a cool $135,000 winner’s check, and the win catapulted him from the 63rd to the 14th spot on the tour’s points list. The golfers who remain on the final top-25 list earn PGA Tour cards, with a chance to compete at the highest professional level in the sport.
Shelton looks to get back into the PGA Tour after losing his card at the conclusion of the 2020-21 season. Two other golfers that competed in the BMW Charity Pro-Am, Brandon Matthews and Shelton’s partner Ben Griffin, clinched their PGA Tour cards after the event for cementing their rank in the standings.
