Old TV Shows I’m Still Addicted To
There’s something comforting about turning on an old TV show and realizing you already know exactly what’s going to happen. You know the characters, you know the jokes, and sometimes you can practically say the lines along with them. And yet, somehow, you still sit there and watch the whole thing. I guess that’s why I’m still addicted to old-school TV shows.

They’re not necessarily the newest, hottest shows on television. They’re the shows I grew up with, or discovered later, that never seem to get old.
They’re familiar, funny, and in a strange way, comforting.
Let’s start with Mayberry. The Andy Griffith Show is one of those shows that can make you slow down for a while. Andy, Barney, Aunt Bee, Opie, and the rest of the Mayberry gang created a little world where the problems were pretty simple. And then there was Barney Fife. Barney might have been one of the most entertaining characters ever put on television. His confidence was usually much bigger than his abilities, and watching Andy try to keep him out of trouble was half the fun. Even after all these years, the show still has something that many modern shows don’t, a feeling of home.
Then there’s Lucy. I Love Lucy proved that great comedy doesn’t need complicated special effects or huge sets. Just give Lucille Ball a ridiculous situation, Desi Arnaz a little patience, and let Lucy make everything ten times worse in the funniest way possible. Sure, some of the situations feel a bit of their time. But the physical comedy, that still works.
And then there’s Gilligan’s Island. Who hasn’t wondered what it would be like to be stranded on a deserted island? The Professor could seemingly build anything except a way off the island. The Skipper was always trying to keep things under control. Gilligan was, well, Gilligan. And somehow, despite all their problems, they always seemed to find a way to make another episode out of being stuck in the same place. That’s part of the charm.
Maybe that’s the real question. Why do we keep coming back to shows we’ve already seen dozens of times? For me, it’s probably because you know what you’re getting. No surprises, no complicated storylines to remember, and no wondering whether the show is going to suddenly disappear after one season. Old TV shows can be like visiting an old friend. You already know their quirks. You know their stories. And that’s exactly why you enjoy spending time with them. Today’s television has plenty of great shows, but there’s something special about sitting down and watching an old favorite. Sometimes you just don’t need something new. Sometimes you just need Mayberry, Lucy, or a deserted island full of people who still haven’t figured out how to get home. And apparently, I’m perfectly happy watching them all over again.
I love TV Land for nostalgia tv. ME TV is great too. And there’s a free service called Pluto TV. Classic shows have their own channel. From Andy to Lucy to Gomer Pyle. Lots of shows to select from.
Here are my go to old tv shows::
Leave It To Beaver
Perry Mason
I Love Lucy
Beverly Hillbillies
Andy Griffith

Classic TV. Better than comfort food. They go well together at my house.
