It is Wednesday April 10, 2024.

It is spring, April and the peak of the severe weather season, So, here we go with another day for potential severe weather.

Marengo and Sumter counties in West Alabama are part of a Tornado Watch issued a short time ago by the National Weather Service until 5:00pm today.

Things were looking pretty good for a reduced threat of strong to severe thunderstorms until the sun broke out and blue skies made an unexpected appearance earlier this morning. Thay may have helped destabilize the atmosphere enough to enable strong to severe storms this afternoon and early evening.

The potential for severe weather prompted school officials in some systems across West Alabama to take proper precautions. Some are dismissing early today or are going to eLearning.
