Good morning! It is Tuesday, June 6, 2023. This is a significant date in world history. On this date 79 years ago thousands of Allied Troops stormed the beaches of Normandy, France in the greatest amphibious military operation in history. "Operation Overlord", led by U.S. General Dwight D. Eisenhower was a success, leading to the beginning of the end of Nazi Germany's occupation of France and most of Europe during WWII. A few dozen of the few remaining D-Day Veterans are in France today to commemorate the event. The youngest are in their late 90s.

Weatherwise, today will be much like yesterday. Scattered clouds this morning will give way to partly cloudy conditions by the afternoon with isolated to scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s to the lower 90s. Tonight, lingering showers and storms in the evening will give way to possible patchy fog after midnight. Lows will be in the 60s.

During last night’s meeting, some Northport residents showed up to oppose a plan by the city council to move forward with the possibility of selling the Northport Community Center to a developer. That vote was not a final approval for the $1.1-million sale to Beeker Property Group for a mixed-use development on Park Street.

In Sports:

The Southeastern Conference will continue with an 8-game conference football schedule at least through the 2024 season. Because there will no longer be East and West Divisions, the conference must figure out the logistics of a nine-game slate down the road for when Texas and Oklahoma join the league.
