West Alabama Thursday Briefing
Good morning West Alabama! It is Thursday, November 7. 2024.
Thursday Morning Observations:
No doubt whoever sent racist texts to people all over the country, including a UA student, will claim it was intended as a prank, if they are ever caught. Some may chuckle and agree, it was not to those receiving it.
The text told recipients they had been selected to pick cotton at the nearest plantation and that should be ready for pickup by "executive slaves."
Race is a sensitive issue, especially in a region of the country where slavery was a scourge for so long. Whether it was a prank or had more sinister purposes, the message has hurt and angered many.
That message ranks right alongside the despicable ones sent more publicly in the media from left wing Democrats, calling those who voted for now President-Elect Trump misogynistic, sexist, racist, homo-phobic, Nazis. Yep, that's going to unite the country.
VP Kamala Harris sounded conciliatory in her concession speech Wednesday but not Democrat operatives on the various networks. Ignoring the fact that Donald Trump garnered significant vote totals from blacks, Latinos, women, young people and other demographics; the left wing has chosen a "scorched earth" post-election rhetoric. They don't seem to mind further dividing this nation.
After the January 6 riot in Washington DC four years ago, we should have learned a valuable lesson, words have impact. Everyone, on all political sides, needs to step back and take a deep breath from such a contentious political campaign and understand the majority of the voters have spoken.
Whether you like the outcome or not, it is time to temper our rhetoric, on both sides, and attempt to heal a wounded nation. Both Harris and Trump have spoken of national unity. It is critical, for if we don't, there are enemies in Russia, China, Iran and North Korea who would love to continue to exploit that rift and further divide and conquer us.
