Warning Alabama: Cicada Invasion Approaching
Cicadas are a few months away.
I'm sure everyone is excited as I am about these pests.
The insect, best known for their super annoying shrill whistling noise, are not the most destructive bugs. They do not sting or bite. And there are years between cicada arrivals.
“Nobody alive today will see it happen again,” Floyd Shockley, an entomologist at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History reported.
Cicadas live short lives, mating and depositing their eggs into tree branches before dying. Cicadas typically crawl up from the ground.
Cicada season only lasts about six weeks. The cicada invasion is indeed a rare spectacle.
Here are some things you can do to protect your home
-Use mesh or netting: Cover your windows, doors, and vents with mesh or netting to prevent cicadas from entering your home.
-Seal cracks and gaps: Inspect your home for any cracks or gaps where cicadas may enter and seal them with caulk or weather stripping.
Install screens: Make sure all windows and doors are equipped with screens to keep cicadas out.
-Use insect repellent: Consider using insect repellent around the perimeter of your home to deter cicadas from entering.
-Remove attractants: Keep outdoor lights off at night, as cicadas are attracted to light. Also, remove any sources of food or water that may attract them.
Consult a professional: If you have a severe cicada infestation, consider consulting a pest control professional for more effective solutions.
At the end of the day there is no getting around this invasion. we just have to buckle down and get through it the best we can.
