Saving money at Walmart just got more interesting with the change in their coupon policy. Walmart is making a few modifications, including elimination of overages on coupons, limits on certain types of coupons that can be used and more, according to Coupons in the News.

No More Overages

Imagine you have a coupon for an item you are looking for and find the price is lower that the what the coupon promises. You'd go to the register and the difference is put towards the total of your purchase or, in some cases, get cash back. That was Walmart's policy until recently.

Certain Coupon Limits

There is now a limit of four identical coupons that can be used at the register for items. For example, if you buy five large containers of laundry detergent and you have five coupons to use toward the detergent, you can only use four coupons. You will either have to put the fifth bottle of detergent back or pay the total price.

No More Overrides at the Register

We have all seen it when a coupon wouldn't scan and a manager would come to the register, enter a code and override the price to give the discount. That is no longer possible at Walmart either. The new policy states that if the coupon doesn't scan or is not found in their database, it will not be honored at the point of purchase.

One has to wonder why after six years would Walmart change their policy now? Besides problems the entire US economy is facing, we can only guess at Walmart's reasoning.
