Downtown Tuscaloosa's newest business is Vitola Fine Cigars, a new store and smoking room that opened on 6th Street Wednesday morning.

The store is owned and operated by Harris Saunders III and his son, who went into business together 13 years ago and now run four cigar stores in the Birmingham area.

The new lounge may look small from the outside, but don't be deceived -- the 4,000 square-foot interior houses a cavernous humidor stocked with thousands of cigars and also offers space to smoke on sofas and lounge chairs both upstairs and downstairs.

The store will not sell or serve alcohol, but the younger Saunders said guests are welcome to bring their own beer, wine and liquor to sip on while they smoke in the store.

Vitola Fine Cigars is open now at 2314 6th Street, next to FIVE and Catch 22. They are currently open Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., and Saunders said he and his dad will consider opening on Sundays after they've been open a month or two.

The store's official grand opening is not yet scheduled, but their first day in business was Wednesday morning, so stop by and see the Saunders at Vitola Fine Cigars.
