For the first time this season, Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa met with the media and it was a chance to learn more about what's making this team and this offense so successful in 2018.

The sophomore, who has yet to throw a pass in the fourth quarter, has helped lead this Crimson Tide team to 37 total touchdowns through the first five games. No other team in SEC history has scored as many touchdowns during that time to start a season.

"This is just the expectation that we have as a whole offense," Tagovailoa said. "Like I said, this isn't something that could have been done just by myself. This is a team effort. Like I said, we have playmakers and these guys are the ones making the plays for us as a team. It's a testament to what they're doing, not so much myself."

The biggest story heading into the season was the future of Jalen Hurts. The junior led Alabama to the national championship game in each of his first two seasons as the starting quarterback but lost his job to Tagovailoa officially after the first game this season.

"The kind of character that (Hurts) has, you know, and the kind of maturity that he's shown throughout the year within our team this year, I think that's something special. We hear things going around with other quarterbacks and what not, but to have Jalen still stick with it truly tells how he was raised as a person. And it kind of testifies to his family as well."

That camaraderie and selflessness seems to be a common theme for this year's team, and it has the look of a group that could accomplish some special things this year.

"The thing I really do like about our team this year is everybody is really, really close with one another. Our offensive line is really close with our receivers. Our running backs are really close with our receivers. Our receivers are really close with our running backs. Everyone's so close this year that it makes things so much fun."
